Johnny Cakes

1 cup water

2 tbsp. butter

1 cup yellow cornmeal

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. sugar

1/2 cup milk

butter to grease skillet

Heat the water and butter in a saucepan over medium high heat, until they boil. While the water and butter are boiling, put the cornmeal, salt and sugar into the mixing bowl. Pour the boiling water and butter into the mixing bowl. Add the milk and stir th batter until it's well mixed. Grease the skillet, then heat it to medium-low heat. Drop 6 spoonfulls of batter into the skillet. Let the cakes cook about 5 minutes, until they are golden brown. Use a spatula to turn over the cakes. Let the other side of the cake cook for 5 minutes. Remove the cakes from the skillet and onto an ovenproof plate. Keep them warm in a 200 degree oven. Cook the rest of the johnnycakes. Serve with apple butter or syrup.

Their bundles consist, as it is supposed, of two match coat blanket, two pair of leather breeches , two osnabrig shirts, two check shirts, and two red jackets. Shaw is about 5 feet 10 inches high, has a swarthy omplexion, dark short frizzled hair, has a long scar on his right arm, appears bold, and talks much. Ingles is about 5 feet 5 inches high, has short straight hair, swarthy and long-featured, has a scab over his right eye, his right leg is sore, he is fond of liquor, and talks more in his country dialect than Shaw.----Whoever takes up, and secures the said servants, shall have 40s for each, paid by
