Sarah Fitzhugh

Good day! My name is Sarah Battaile FitzHugh, and I am the eldest of thirteen children. My father and mother are Col. Henry and Sarah FitzHugh. My residence is at Bedford plantation in the Northen Neck of Virginia, a most elegant estate with well tended orchards, fields, woods, and gardens.

Some pastimes I enjoy greatly are dancing, music, riding, playing at lawn bowls, and parties. Oh, and I also love visiting Millinery shops, and when I can, having new gowns made! My newest one shall be a pink, silk formal gown--I am quite anxious to wear it to the next dance. I spend a good amount of my free time with my dear friend Miss Molly Townshend Washington, my brother George, and his good friends, the honorable Benjamin and Robert Carter.

You can usually find me sharing a little gossip with my friends, embroidering, playing at lawn bowls or cards, or reading an interesting book. It seems I must take my leave now, there is a sampler to be embroidered!

I remain,

Your most humble servant,

Sarah Battaile FitzHugh
